Publication abstract: 

ToPiX v4 is the prototype for the readout of the silicon pixel sensors for the Micro Vertex Detector of the PANDA experiment. ToPiX provides position, time and energy measurement of the incoming particles and is designed for the triggerless environment foreseen in PANDA. The prototype includes 640 pixels with a size of 100 um x 100 um, a 160 MHz time stamp distribution circuit to measure both particle arrival time and released energy (via ToT technique) and the full control logic. The ASIC is designed in a 0.13 um CMOS technology with SEU protection techniques for the digital parts.

Written contribution to Quarks2014, Suzdal, Russia, June 2-8, 2014 http://quarks.inr.ac.ru/ (Deadline October 31) Abstract A high intensity antiproton beam of momentum up to 15 GeV/c will be available at FAIR in next future. The PANDA experiment, which is integrated in the storage ring for antiprotons, is at the center of the hadron physics program at this facility. It includes among other topics like hadron spectroscopy in the charmonium mass region, hyperon physics and electromagnetic processes. This contribution describes the facility, the detector and the relevant physics issues, with special focus on electromagnetic proton form factors in the time-like region.

Spin observables provide a powerful tool in understanding the physics. Seven polarisation parameters of the Omega ­ baryon can be extracted from the angular distributions of the hyperon decay and studied with the future PANDA experiment at FAIR. Simulation studies show that strange and single charmed hyperon channels have great prospects with PANDA.

Publication abstract: 

In order to fulfill the goal of producing high rates of doubly strange hyperons the ¯PANDA collaboration will use the antiproton ring HESR at the future facility FAIR. The low energy hyperon production by an antiproton beam requires to insert a solid target inside the ring. Unwanted side effects of such an insertion are the overwelming amount of annihilations, which would make the detectors blind, and the fast depletion of the bunch, which circulates inside the ring. The use of a very thin target and the technique of beam steering seem to be a satisfactory solution to the above problems and will be described here.
