Due to the lack of experimental data, our knowledge on the excitation spectrum of double-strange baryons is very poor, however very important for understanding QCD in the non-perturbative regime. While within SU(3) symmetry the Xi spectrum should have as many states as the N and Delta spectrum together, only few Xi* states are established, most of them without spin-parity assignment. Thanks to the pbar-p entrance channel and the large detector acceptance for both charged and neutral particles, the PANDA experiment is the ideal place for Xi spectroscopy. An important part of the PANDA physics program is therefore devoted to the study of the Xi spectrum. Results of feasibility studies of identifying Xi* states in the final states Xibar+ L K-, Xibar+ Xi- pi0, and Xibar+ Xi- pi+ pi- will be reported, and the perspective of studying further decay modes will be discussed.

The PANDA experiment will be one of the pillars of the new Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), which is currently under construction in Darmstadt, Germany. PANDA will be a fixed-target experiment which will allow the study of non-perturbative phenomena of the strong interaction. These will be probed in antiproton-proton collisions in the momentum range of 1.5 - 15 GeV/c. Within the PANDA physics program, strangeness production will be addressed through pbar p - > Ybar Y processes. Measurements of the pbar p-> Sigmabar Lambda channel for its comparison with the existing data of the Lambdabar Lambda channel are highly encouraged to study the role of isospin symmetry in hadron production dynamics. This work consists on a simulation study focusing on the feasibility of measuring the pbar p -> Sigmabar Lambda channel at PANDA.

In this document, the production of Xibar+Xi- pairs is simulated in the pbarp -> Xibar+Xi- reaction channel at beam momenta of p_beam=7.0 GeV/c and p_beam=4.6 GeV/c. The first beam momentum is chosen at the energy corresponding to the formation of the X(3872), where a large data taking campaign is foreseen when PANDA is operational. The second beam momentum is chosen around 100 MeV/c2 above the production threshold of Xibar(1820)+Xi- + c.c. The feasibility to measure polarisations and spin correlations in the reaction channel is studied for the sequential process Xi- -> Lambda pi-, Lambda -> p pi- + c.c.
